Why Sundays for Dogs is the Best Dog Food to Frequent Travelers
Dr. Tory Waxman, Co-Founder & Chief Veterinary Officer
Our air-dried recipes are healthy like a home cooked meal, but simple to take on-the-go for all your travel needs.
One of the best parts of life with a dog is being on the go together. A stroll around the block, a run around the neighborhood, a road trip cross country — dogs keep up, keep us moving, and keep us company as we live our lives.
To maximize adventures with your dog, their food needs to be full of healthy nutrition, but travel-friendly!
When we designed Sundays, we created a dog food that’s healthy like a home cooked meal, but still as convenient as kibble. It means you can provide great nutrition to your dog, and it’s effortless to store and feed whether you’re at home or on the go.
Personally, as someone who brings our dogs on family trips and spends our weekends traveling to agility trials, convenience is of utmost importance to me.
Heading into an active summer with your dog? Here’s how our recipes make everything healthier and easier.
Human-grade & air-dried
We’ve paired industry-leading nutrition with an innovative air-drying technique. Our recipes are vet-formulated, and packed with healthy, high quality meat, vegetables, fruits, and superfoods like blueberries, kale, and fish oil. We adhere to human-grade standards every step of the way, and to ensure your dog benefits from all the great ingredients, we avoid the ultra-processing used to make kibble.
Instead, after gently cooking to eliminate potential pathogens and bacteria, we slowly dehydrate the food. This locks in the nutrients, concentrates the flavor, and results in a healthy, shelf-stable food, able to be kept at room temperature for 8 weeks once open, or 12 months sealed.
Easy to store
Whether you keep our food in its original packaging, or decant it into a Ziplock or Tupperware, it couldn’t be simpler to take on the go. Our jerky-like recipes require no refrigeration or freezing, no bulky cooler bags or ice packs — and unlike frozen food, it’s light to carry, and clean to serve.
Dogs go with us everywhere these days, to places there’s no guarantee of ample cold food storage. Camping, car trips, airplane rides, exploring the great outdoors (or indoors) is more fun when you can focus on the other logistics of your adventures, and not constantly worry if your dog’s food is a safe temperature.
Portions provided
When you’re dealing with the complexities of travel, not having to wonder about the amount of food you should feed at mealtimes can be a great help.
We provide portion recommendations tailored to your dog based on their unique information you share at signup, measured in cups. It’s effortless to feed a healthy amount to support your dog’s ideal weight, and invest in their long term health.
No learning curve for sitters
Occasionally, there will be an adventure your dog can’t join for, requiring someone else to watch them in your absence. Whether you have someone watch them at home, leave them with a trusted sitter, or make use of a dog boarding facility, having food that’s simple-to-use — that is, requiring no special storage, and has servings measured in standard cups — makes everything smoother.
We started Sundays because we know caring for a dog is hard enough without complicated feeding routines. This is especially true when you’re minding a dog that’s not your own! A foolproof food is a great way to remove a potentially stressful aspect from the experience.
We can even provide more support by shipping an order to the address your dog will be staying at, and dog sitters are just as welcome to reach out to us for help as the dog’s actual parent!
Leave the treats at home
One other way our food makes travel easier is it can double as treats. Since it’s so tasty, shelf-stable, and easy to break into smaller tidbits, it works great as rewards. Even at home, I often take a portion of my dogs’ breakfasts on walks with us!
We extensively taste test all of our recipes to ensure dogs love them before sharing them with our customers. We want every meal to feel like a tasty treat! But for dog parents, food doubling as treats also means one fewer thing to remember to pack, and have to carry on trips.
