The Pets Table vs. Sundays for Dogs: Who Wins?

by Sundays for Dogs

Two dog food brands, one big question: which belongs in your dog’s bowl?

You want to feed your dog well without overcomplicating dinner. Sundays for Dogs and The Pets Table both offer air-dried meals made with real meat. The Pets Table also sells gently cooked fresh food, while Sundays keeps its lineup air-dried.

So which brand makes more sense for your pup? We’ll look at the brands behind the food, compare a recipe from each, see how their meals are made, and hear from real customers.

About the Brands

First, let’s meet the people behind each brand. Their stories say a lot about what they want to bring to your dog’s bowl.

The Pets Table

Founded by three longtime HelloFresh colleagues—Laurent, Anisha, and Dovas—The Pets Table extends their meal-delivery experience to dogs. The company offers air-dried food, gently cooked fresh meals, and plans that combine both. That variety appeals to dog parents who want a choice between a pantry-ready bowl and a fresh meal delivered frozen.

Sundays for Dogs

Sundays was founded by practicing veterinarian Dr. Tory Waxman, who wanted to make feeding dogs easier for busy families. Together with her husband, Michael, she created human-grade, vet-formulated food that could stay on the shelf and go straight into the bowl, without cooking or thawing. That combination of veterinary knowledge and everyday convenience gives Sundays its first edge.

Ingredients

What’s in the bag? To make this comparison concrete, we’re looking at Sundays’ Beef Recipe and The Pets Table’s Beef & Berries Air-Dried recipe. These are two selections from the brands, not their entire menus.

Sundays’ Dog Food Ingredients - Beef Recipe

Beef, Beef Liver, Beef Bone Meal, Sunflower Meal, Flaxseed Meal, Quinoa Seed, Pumpkin, Parsley, Zucchini, Salt, Dried Kelp, Ginger, Kale, Turmeric, Mixed Tocopherols (Preservative), Selenium Yeast, Nutrients (sourced from Carrot, Apple, Tomato, Shiitake Mushroom, Broccoli, Spinach, Red Beet, Cherry, Strawberry, Blueberry)

The Pets Table Dog Food Ingredients - Beef & Berries

Beef, Eggs, Apples, Carrots, Bovine Plasma, Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Blueberries, Cranberries, Salmon Oil, Beef Liver, Flaxseed, Chickpeas, Natural Flavor, Choline Chloride, Spinach, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Dried Chicory Root, Yeast Extract, Mixed Tocopherols (preservative), Rosemary Extract, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, D-calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate), Tricalcium Phosphate

The Pets Table’s ingredient list is noticeably longer than Sundays’, largely because it names 16 vitamin and mineral supplements, from vitamin E to calcium iodate. The bigger difference is where each recipe gets its nutrients.

Sundays builds its recipe around beef, beef liver and beef bone meal, the first three ingredients on the label. These do more than add meat to the bowl: liver naturally provides vitamin A, B vitamins and iron, while bone meal supplies calcium and phosphorus. Seeds, grains and produce, including sunflower meal, flaxseed meal, quinoa and pumpkin, round out the recipe, with additional nutrients sourced from whole foods such as carrots, spinach and blueberries.

The Pets Table’s recipe provides nutrients from its listed food ingredients and uses an added vitamin and mineral blend, along with tricalcium phosphate, to round out the recipe. This is a standard, effective way to make food complete and balanced.

Sundays wins the ingredients round for letting whole foods do more of the nutritional work, rather than relying on an added vitamin and mineral blend.

Manufacturing & Cooking

Both companies air-dry food, so either brand can give you a shelf-stable meal. The difference lies in the brands’ wider menus and the production details they share.

Sundays slowly air-dries its recipes at low temperatures in Midwest facilities that follow human-food safety and manufacturing standards. Sundays uses a validated time-and-temperature heating step during manufacturing to kill harmful bacteria. You can store the finished food in the pantry and scoop it straight into the bowl, no freezer space or thawing required.

The Pets Table offers both air-dried and fresh meals. Its air-dried beef and chicken recipes can stay in the pantry and are ready to serve. Its fresh meals are gently cooked, then flash-frozen, so you’ll need freezer space and time to thaw them before feeding.

Both brands’ air-dried meals offer the same pantry storage and scoop-and-serve convenience, so this round is a tie. The Pets Table also offers fresh meals for dog parents who prefer that format.

Customer Reviews

What do the dog parents say? Reviews cannot tell you how your own dog will react, but they can give a glimpse of what feeding is like in other homes. Here are short excerpts from each brand’s own review page.
